Julie Kedzie Bio

Julie Kedzie

Julie Kedzie is a female mixed martial artist with a record of 16-9.  She trains under Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn at Jackson's MMA in Albuquerque NM.

Julie's first introduction to martial arts (in the form of Tae Kwon Do) was at the age of four. She began her competitive career in sport TKD at Monroe County Martial Arts (Bloomington Indiana) before switching to study Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the Indiana Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Acadamy (Greenwood Indiana).

She has won 1st place at the Extreme Grappling Open (EGO) and the World Kickboxing Association National Title, and has held the Hook N' Shoot title for her weight class since 2005. On February 10, 2007 she fought then-undefeated Gina Carano for EliteXC Destiny card (the first women's MMA fight ever shown on cable television). Although she lost by decision to Carano, she gained recognition for participating in "the fight of the night", and was subsequently recruited by coach Greg Jackson to join his team in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she continues to train full time alongside Keith Jardine, Georges St. Pierre, Rashad Evans, Nate Marquardt, and Holly Holm. She was one of the first female MMA fighters to have been sponsored by TapouT, and was featured on a September 2008 episode of the TapouT reality show.

In addition to training, Julie also serves as a personal assistant to her coach, Greg Jackson.  Aside from MMA, Julie loves reading (she has a B.A. in English Literature from Indiana University) and animals, especially polar bears (she spends hours at the zoo watching them!). She has two cats named Genghis and Princess Pounces
