DonaldBy John Fullilove, jacksons.tv

jacksons.tv:   Where did you grow up?

Donald Cerrone:  Colorado Springs, CO.

jacksons.tv:   What type of activities were you involved with prior to starting MMA?

Donald Cerrone:  Rock Climbing, Dirt Biking and Riding Bulls.

jacksons.tv:   Were you are teenager when you started those activities?

Donald Cerrone:  Yes I was.  All through high school, as a kid and till to this day.

jacksons.tv:   Did you start in martial arts with Muay Thai?

Donald Cerrone:  Yes, it was with Thai Kickboxing.  I remember being 20 years old and taking my second fight in New York.  I was about 20 years old when I first started.

jacksons.tv:   What did you like about Thai Kickboxing?

Donald Cerrone:  Just throwing down.  Just getting in there and letting it go.  Then I started liking the technique and it turned into a passion of mine.  So, it started just going in there fighting to being an actual art.  I enjoy it still to this day.

jacksons.tv:   How have you been able to blend Muay Thai and MMA together?

Donald Cerrone:  I feel it’s real important to be a striker.  Most fighters come from a wrestling background and their striking is no good.  I think it’s good to have good striking.  I feel in my weight class that I am one of the top strikers, so, I’m glad I started out kickboxing and evolved into MMA.

jacksons.tv:   You are noted for your extreme toughness – how do you account for that toughness?

Donald Cerrone:  I think it’s just growing up.  If you going to be dumb, you better be tough – I’ve made a lot of mistakes.

Cowbay fighting Hendersonjacksons.tv:   How do you view a title fight now after having several of them?

Donald Cerrone:  It’s just another fight for me, really.  I feel like I’ve already beat Ben and I’m going in there to just finish him off this time.

jacksons.tv:   How do you keep yourself motive and improving as a fighter?

Donald Cerrone:  I definitely work on my wrestling.  There is always a bigger and badder fish out there.  You just got to keep hunting them down and hunting them down so that one day you are the biggest and badest.

jacksons.tv:   What are other interests you have or pursue?

Donald Cerrone:  A lot of video games.  Dirt biking and horse riding. Ranching.  The cowboy is not just a thing it’s a way of life.

jacksons.tv:   Do you enjoy New Mexico?

Donald Cerrone:  I enjoy being in Edgewood. So, yes I enjoy it.

jacksons.tv:   Are you running a ranch on your property?

Donald Cerrone:  Yes we do.  Leonard (Garcia) and I both do.  It’s good.  We are actually getting some pigs in the next couple of days to slaughter so it should be good.

jacksons.tv:   How do you maintain working out without burning out?Dirt Bikes at Ranch

Donald Cerrone:  That’s the trick isn’t it.  A little bit of this, a little bit of that.  Burning out sucks.  Man, you just take time off when you need time.  When your body tells you no more you just have to listen to your body and know when to quit.

jacksons.tv:   Your fights are very exciting and full of action and you also train really hard. How do you avoid serious injury given the intensity of your training and fighting?

Donald Cerrone:  I am always constantly injured - constantly.  Everything hurts me, all day, every day.  You just have to push through it. There’s a little bit of grace period after a fight.

jacksons.tv:    Is there anyone you would like to acknowledge who contributes to your success?

Donald Cerrone:   I just want to thank all the guys at the Tapout House.  I want to thank Tapout for making it possible and “bitch ass” Leonard.
